Checklist for a Website

These are just basic things. More advanced ones have to be decided on.

  • Have stats for all websites.
  • Add files
    • .htaccess (block unneeded pages, scripts, sql injections, etc)
    • robots.txt
    • sitemap.xml(.gz)
    • favicon.ico and apple icon (really, Apple!? You had to make your own…)
      • <link rel=“shortcut icon” href=“/favicon.ico” type=“image/x-icon”>
      • <link rel=“icon” href=“/favicon.ico” type=“image/x-icon”>
      • <link rel=“apple-touch-icon” href=“/apple-touch-icon.png”>
    • crossdomain.xml
  • Have a good, lean, and responsive theme.
  • Make and set custom error pages (not hosting providers)
    • 400, 401, 403, 404 (not on wikis), 500
  • Security
    • Remove version numbers from public view.
  • Once a site has enough traffic, put ads in it. Maybe even put boxes for amazon books…
